Keep It Simple

Last week, I visited Simplicity Living’s Productivity HUB in Mt Wellington. I was grateful to be in the presence of some of New Zealand’s greatest minds in construction and witness innovation first hand.

Here’s what I learned:

Tradition can stifle innovation. The building industry is rooted in traditions and norms. These norms have been adopted at scale and people simply do things because thats how it has been done previously. When given an opportunity and enough time, independent, free thinkers are key to breaking these barriers.

More components required in any given system, increases the likelihood of errors to occur. Streamlining the build process by eliminating unnecessary elements through innovations and implementation increases speed and efficiency.

Where experts are required, hire the best and step aside. Rely and trust on the wealth of knowledge from the experts you hire.

Knowledge is power, but sharing knowledge is a super power. Moving away from the hubris of previous traditions. Simplicity Living has opened its doors and made their IP available to anyone wanting to adopt this way of building.

It’s an exciting time to be involved in the construction industry. I am looking forward to watching many more projects like this come to life for the collective good of New Zealand.
